The Prep School is for pupils aged 7-11. The transition into the Prep School for pupils transferring from Year 2 to Year 3 is smooth and natural. There are sometimes a few additional places available in Year 3 for external candidates.
Prep pupils are encouraged to do their very best whilst learning to become responsible and caring members of the school community. They are encouraged to become inquisitive and independent learners and to make the most of every opportunity.
The Prep building lies at the centre of the school containing classrooms and a purpose-built science laboratory. There is also an adjoining wildlife garden and pond. Pupils also have access to other specialist teaching rooms for a wide range of subjects.
There are two Prep forms per year group, each with a form teacher. Lessons are taught increasingly by specialist teachers, with form teachers assuming responsibility for the pastoral care of their pupils. In Years 3 and 4 teachers are also supported by teaching assistants.
Children benefit from a broad curriculum whilst development of basic skills in core subjects continues. They achieve considerable success in senior school entrance exams for both the maintained and independent sectors and also excel in music, drama, art and sport. Pupils leave the school well-prepared to meet the challenges of secondary education.
