Through our teaching of Geography we aim to stimulate the children’s interest in their surroundings and to develop a sense of wonder and an appreciation of the beauty of the world around them. Children are encouraged to ask questions about people and places at home and abroad and to develop an understanding of the diversity of the people of the world and the places in which they live.
We want children to understand the effect of human activity on the quality of the environment and to consider the future of the human habitat. An awareness of the principles of sustainable development is fostered and the children are encouraged to take positive action through class-based projects and whole school initiatives.
The Geography curriculum aims to equip children with investigative skills and problem-solving capabilities. Fieldwork techniques using a range of resources and equipment are developed at school, in the local environment and on field trips to local environmental centres.
