Early Years Foundation Stage

Nursery and Reception children receive a wide ranging and balanced curriculum. We follow the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage but extend the curriculum with a strong focus on Reading, Writing and Numeracy. These are incorporated throughout the seven areas of learning. Discovery, interaction, enjoyment and fun form the basis of the teaching and learning and cross-curricular links are embraced. The children are introduced to relevant technology to support their learning. French, Music, Dance, PE, Drama and Forest School are taught by specialist teachers.

Key Areas of Learning

As outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage guidance, the curriculum is divided into two main areas of learning and development which are interconnected.  The Prime Areas are fundamental and work together to support development in all other areas and the Specific Areas provide essential knowledge for children to participate successfully in society.

We aim to give the children a solid foundation of knowledge and understanding, recognising that children’s learning is an integrated process. We build upon children’s previous experiences and learning through structured and play-based activities, which are both child initiated and adult led.
