Year 6 Enjoy a Taste of France
On Monday 14th May Year 6 excitedly departed from Blackheath Prep for their five day residential trip to Château du Broutel, France.
After a very fast Eurostar journey through the Channel Tunnel, the children embarked on a scenic trip through Northern France before arriving at the Château. Soon Year 6 were enjoying their first activity in the beautiful grounds.
At the beginning of the week the children enjoyed trips to the caves at Naours, followed by a morning making mayonnaise at the Château. They also went to the market at Berck-sur-Mer, where they could practise their French. After a French lunch, in the afternoon they visited a chocolate factory and a wheat farm, where they tried plaiting the wheat.
The following morning Year 6 experienced some activities such as kayaking and raft building on the lake. This proved to be both challenging and great fun for all involved. In the afternoon the children took a stroll into the local town of Rue for a French treasure hunt. After successfully completing this, they ordered drinks in the café and relaxed on the terrace. In the evening after dinner the children had another challenge - to try some escargots and frogs legs!
After a final morning of activities Year 6 said au revoir to their friends at the Château and headed back home with lots of memories to take with them when they leave Blackheath Prep at the end of term.
