Girls PE Round-Up

Here is a round-up for the girls PE so far this term.

Our Year 6 girls have had a very busy half term which started with a comprehensive victory against Pointers beating them 13-6 on 19th January. On 26th January they hosted Alleyn's and our results were the A team losing 3-12, the B1's making a fantastic comeback to win 10-8 and the B2's very narrowly losing their match 1-2.  On 2nd February the B teams went to JAPS for a Netball Festival with 12 other schools. It was a wonderful afternoon of amazing netball, even though the conditions were freezing cold. Our B1 team finished 3rd overall with Jemima H voted Player of the Day for this team. Our B2 team finished 8th overall with Emma W voted Player of the Day. The girls have worked very hard this term and are starting to reap the success on court – well done girls!

For their first fixture Year 5 travelled to JAPS on 15th January. The A team won a tightly contested match 4-3 and the B team showed great character in a 2-6 loss. The A's went to Dulwich Hamlet on 18th January and comprehensively won this game 11-0, which was followed up by a 9-4 win when they hosted Pointers on 25th January. On 1st February they travelled to Alleyn's and yet another close contest was won by our A team as they beat their opponents 7-6. Our B1's lost 3-6 and our B2's managed to fight for a well-deserved 0-0 draw. The girls have put so much effort into training this term and I am looking forward to watching them go from strength to strength after half term. Well played girls!

On 16th January the Year 4 girls had the opportunity to take on a new and exciting challenge when they played Alleyn's in a Hi5 format. In total the girls played 4 matches, winning 1, drawing 2 and losing 1 game. The girls thoroughly enjoyed learning this new format of the game and are looking forward to playing more Hi5 matches in the future. The teams then had to adapt when hosting Streatham and Clapham on 30th January in a standard 7-a-side format. The A's and B1's played to goalless draws and our B2's also drew their match 1-1. The girls have been very enthusiastic this term and are looking forward to playing more matches after half term. Well done girls!

Year 3 hosted Blackheath High School and West Lodge for a netball festival on 7th February. It was a great afternoon of netball with 16 games played and a number of goals scored. The focus for the afternoon was on participation and learning about the game and all of the girls had a wonderful time. Well played girls!

On 5th February Year 6 girls had a wonderful opportunity to play Blackheath High School in a friendly hockey match. With minimal exposure to the game, it was fantastic to see the girls take to the hockey pitch despite the freezing temperatures and enjoy themselves! A number of small sided games were played and I am pleased to report that we only suffered a single defeat throughout the afternoon. The girls are looking forward to other opportunities to play this great game. Well done girls!
