Celebration of Singing

On Thursday March 12th we welcomed five school choirs to Blackheath Prep for an afternoon of music making.
We welcomed local state and independent schools and the variety of songs performed was terrific. This was a 'celebration of singing' and not a competition. Nigel Groome, the Director of Music at St. Matthew's Church Westminster, gave encouraging comments to each choir after their performances.
The proceedings commenced with an uplifting rendition of Swing Low, This Train, Oh When the Saints and I'm Gonna Sing sung with great gusto by all of the choirs.
Then each school proceeded to sing two songs:-
All Saints:- Sing a Song of Peace (in sign language too) and Sing yourself a Happy Song
The Pointer School:- A London Medley
Dulwich Hamlet:- Shiny Happy People, Larger Than Life
Colfe's School:- Three Birds, Laura, Fast Car
Halstow School:- Love of My Life, Someone You Loved
Blackheath Prep:- Noah and his Floating Zoo, Yesterday
At the end of the afternoon, the lyrics of ‘We are One’ aptly expressed how singing together unites us all, whatever our backgrounds or culture.
Feedback from our visitors was very positive and we hope this event might become a regular event in the diary!
