Year 5 Visit The Ragged School Museum
On Wednesday 4th March, Year 5 were transported back in time 130 years ago to 1890 as they visited The Ragged School Museum, in London’s East End, for their Victorian school experience.
The children experienced first-hand the strict rules of a typical Victorian lesson, led by the rather formidable Miss Perkins. After a brusque introduction, the children had to complete their activities using slate and chalk, whilst Miss Perkins swiftly set them their tasks.
Once Miss Perkins had come out of role, the children had the chance to ask her questions and also looked in more detail at typical Victorian classroom punishments.
All children enjoyed the trip and left feeling relieved that they didn’t really have to go to a Ragged School in Victorian Britain!
