Governors announce appointment of new Head

The Governors of Blackheath Preparatory School are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Alex Matthews as Head from 1st September 2020.

Alex joins Blackheath Prep from St Paul’s Juniors where he is currently Pastoral Deputy Head.  Prior to this he was Deputy Head Co-Curricular at Dulwich College Junior School.  He brings a wealth of experience from these senior positions at leading London day schools.

Alex graduated in Geography from Regent’s Park College, University of Oxford where he also held a Music award.  He then studied at the University of Chichester, where he obtained his PGCE in Primary Education and subsequently completed an MA in Education with specialisms in Primary Education and English.

On his appointment, Alex says:  “It is both an honour and a privilege to have been invited to take up the role of Head of Blackheath Preparatory School.  Blackheath is a remarkable school and I have been impressed by the values it espouses, the warmth and kindness it conveys to the community it serves and its strong sense of purpose.  As we enter a new and exciting decade together, I am very much looking forward to getting to know everyone, and working with children, staff, parents and governors.”
