It has been a very busy term for the Music Department. Here is a round-up of the wonderful events which we have had the pleasure of being involved in.
On Saturday 23rd November our Chamber Choir attended The Beckenham Festival at St George's Church. The children worked very hard during our rehearsals and their performance on the day was outstanding. The judges were very impressed and we were delighted when Blackheath Prep were announced the winners and the choir gained a distinction.
Year 2 were busy after half term rehearsing the songs for their Christmas production of The Night Before Christmas. The production was watched by the whole school first and then by children's parents. It was a great success and got our festive season off to a flying start.
The highlight of the term is always our annual visit to St Michaels Church for the Prep Carol Service. All the children sang beautifully and Year 6 instrumentalists accompanied the popular ‘Midnight’ in addition to the recorder ensemble adding magic to the Boys Aloud rendition of Noel Nouvelet. ‘Christmas Shopping Blues’ sung by the Chamber Choir was a real treat to listen to. We were joined by Nigel Groome on the organ, which added to the sense of occasion.
While we were all enjoying our fantastic Christmas lunch on Friday 6th December, the Wind Band entertained us with a wonderful selection of carols.
The Nursery children were involved in a Christmas sing-a-long to their parents. It was wonderful to see the parents taking such delight in the children's singing.
Reception had to rehearse songs for their Noisy Nativity which they performed to the school on Monday 9th and to their parents on Tuesday 10th December. They worked really hard and their production was magical.
The Orchestra performed a short concert to pupils and parents together with an uplifting variety of Christmas music on Tuesday 10th December.
A different venture this year was the Year 1 carol singing in the playground complete with lanterns and guitar accompaniment. It was lovely to bring the school community together and get into the festive spirit. The children sang beautifully and clearly enjoyed it, as shown by their smiling faces.
Overall it has been a very successful term and it has reminded us all of what Christmas is about.
