Year 5 Trip to the National Gallery
On a bright and slightly blustery October morning, Year 5 began their day with an early morning stroll through Blackheath village down to the station. We journeyed by train and after a short walk, arrived at the National Gallery.
Upon reaching our destination we entered the gallery and split into small teams. Each group, armed with sketchbooks and pencils, began a treasure hunt to discover and engage with the artwork. This kept us all very busy discovering the collections as well as observing the many inspirational and magnificent exhibits that the gallery has to offer.
After lunch we had more time to explore other areas of the gallery. It is fair to say that many of the children were in awe of the fabulous works on display and they particularly enjoyed some time to sit and discuss the art before choosing their favourites to sketch.
Reluctantly, we then had to return to school. The train journey back gave us all time to reflect on our personal highlights from the many wonderful exhibits we had seen on this tiring but truly inspirational day.
