Girls Football Club - National Finals
Girls Football Club had their final fixture of the season as they left for the Independent Schools Football Association National Finals on Monday 24th June.
The finals were held at the home of English football, St George’s Park, Burton-Upon-Trent.
A very excited group of girls endured the long coach journey, with non-stop singing until they finally arrived in the early evening at the onsite hotel. It was an early night for all as there was a big day ahead.
On Tuesday 25th June the girls arrived at the indoor football centre and were delighted to see their picture up on the advertising banner that greeted all the players!
Cheered on by an army of parents the girls got off to a fantastic start as they beat Gatehouse in their opening fixture 3-0.
The next fixture saw Blackheath leading Warwick Prep with just three minutes to go, but two quick fire goals from the opposition saw the girls lose 1-2.
It was more late heartbreak in the next fixture as the eventual winners Langley Prep scored a wonder goal from the halfway line with the last kick of the game to record a 1-2 victory.
The final group fixture saw Blackheath get back to their winning ways as they comfortably beat Lady Barn House to finish third in their group and just miss out on a semi-final spot.
There was still national ranking to play for and the girls needed to beat Hale Prep to ensure a 5th place ranking. Blackheath took the lead early, only for another outstanding goal to be scored against them late on. Just as in the regional finals it would be penalties to decide the match, and once again the girls showed great skill and determination to come out on top to finish 5th in the country.
The school is very proud of the effort and hard work the girls have put in to their football this season, alongside their other commitments at the Prep. They have played amazingly throughout the season, winning countless fixtures, tournaments at Alleyn’s and JAPS and of course the ISFA South East Regionals.
For all those that are leaving at the end of the year, well done for representing the school in such a fantastic manner. Good luck and keep playing football.
For those who will be staying, we will do it all again next year!
