This week the Nursery children have been learning about the artist Keith Haring.
They listened to a story about his life entitled, ‘The boy who just kept drawing’ written by his sister, Kay A. Haring. They found out that as a child he loved to draw and encouraged his friends to create art with him. As an adult, he donated some of his earnings to children living in poverty. He collaborated with children to create artworks, encouraging them to show their individual style. Using this ethos, the children created their own interpretation of a Keith Haring style drawing and worked together on a group picture using a piece of paper long enough for everyone to fit around. They enjoyed the interactive website, Haringkids.com, where they coloured Keith Haring’s figures and played a group game of ‘hangman’ using their phonic knowledge to find hidden animal names.
