Year 3 Visit the London Transport Museum
In Geography, Year 3 are beginning to learn about Transport in London so a trip to the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden seemed a perfect introduction to our new topic.
We reached the museum by train from Blackheath to Charing Cross and, once there, we could climb on and explore omnibuses, double decker buses, tube trains and overground trains and see how they were different from transport that we recognise today. We saw how the early omnibuses were pulled by horses and how some trains used to have 'ladies only' carriages. We even 'met' James Greathead, the great engineer of the 1870's who told us all about how the underground was first built and we sat in the very first type of tube train.
