UK Mathematics Trust Junior Maths Challenge

20 pupils from Year 6 recently took part in the UK Mathematics Trust Junior Maths Challenge which is aimed at pupils in Year 7 and 8.

In 2018 over 260,000 pupils sat this challenge with roughly the top 6% receiving a gold certificate, the next 13% receiving silver and the next 21% bronze.

In the light of this, we are delighted to announce that at Blackheath Prep, six pupils received Bronze, five pupils received Silver and four pupils received Gold certificates. This is a truly remarkable achievement from such young children.

Two pupils were also invited to participate in the Kangaroo, a follow on round of challenging questions.  We have just heard that both Max and Martha received a Merit in the Kangaroo. This  is an outstanding result with only the highest scoring children in this competition receiving an award. They deserve our congratulations.

Maths Challenges provide material to provoke students’ mathematical thinking and test their problem solving skills in an accessible and yet challenging way and are a way of recognising achievement in mathematics. Well done to all who took part.
