Second Hand Uniform
At Blackheath Prep a small team of parent volunteers organises the collection and sale of second hand uniform. This aims to:
- Provide a convenient way for parents to obtain uniform at a reduced cost;
- Encourage the re-use and recycling of uniform; and
- Raise money for the School and SAWA (a charity which supports schools in Zimbabwe)
Every term we hold at least one sale in the school playground where parents can source uniform and obtain friendly advice on their requirements and sizing from the volunteers. In addition, the team is normally available after school drop off on a Friday morning at the store in the Pavilion and can also respond to uniform requests from parents via emails, texts or being spotted in the playground!
Any clothing we cannot sell is donated to SAWA, shipped to Zimbabwe and then distributed across two different schools in Harare. We assist with the shipping costs of this uniform by donating the proceeds from every alternate playground sale we hold to SAWA.
Once a year we also ask for shoe donations and these too are shipped to Zimbabwe.
