Early Years Curriculum
The Early Years curriculum takes account of how children respond to the world around them and skilled practitioners draw on their spontaneity, natural enthusiasm, curiosity and motivation.
We recognise that the personal, social and emotional development underpins overall attainment and aim to provide a curriculum that encourages self-esteem, self-discipline and positive social interactions.
Provision is relevant and appropriate and builds on past experiences, values what children can already do and supports and extends their learning. Planned purposeful experiences and activities provide opportunities for teaching and learning both indoors and outdoors.
We teach children how to work, play, co-operate with others and function in a group beyond the family. We do this through: · Developing self confidence and esteem · Building relationships with familiar adults and peers · Expressing feelings and respecting the feelings of others · Developing independence with personal care and hygiene · Learning acceptable behaviour · Understanding and an acceptance of rules · Providing standards and examples · Circle time · Activities that promote spiritual and social development · Celebrations of festivals and other cultures · Indoor and outdoor play · Group work
Listening and Speaking · Becoming an effective communicator · Learning to listen and gaining confidence with speech · Extending vocabulary · Stories, news, poetry, rhymes, word games · Drama and role play
