Girls Sport Round-Up

Here is a round-up of the girls sport.

NETBALL

Due to the poor weather conditions Year 6 girls were very unfortunate to have two of their matches cancelled this term. The annual IAPS tournament was cancelled due to the snow but our Year 6A girls were able to attend the Cornflower end of season tournament at Alleyn's on Friday 23rd February, where we were placed 6th overall. Whilst the weather might have spelled a disappointing end to the season I would like to highlight the effort, enthusiasm and dedication with which the girls have played this season. I am very proud of you all.

Two teams of Year 5 girls attended a netball tournament hosted by Alleyn's on Tursday 8th March. With the bad weather resulting in a number of cancellations it was wonderful to see the girls play an afternoon of netball. One of the teams was placed 4th and the other was placed 6th against some tough competition. Well done on a fabulous netball season, it has been a pleasure coaching you!

Unfortunately Year 4 girls were also unlucky to have a number of fixtures cancelled due to the snow. It came as a great relief that the weather cleared in time for our Year 4 Tournament on Tuesday 13th March. Eight local schools made their way to Blackheath Prep for the penultimate fixture of the season. In total 76 games of netball were played throughout the afternoon. Our A1 and A2 teams were placed 5th and 6th respectively but our B1s played some exciting netball to tie for 3rd position with St Christopher's. It was a fantastic turn out with a large number of supporters from all the schools. Thank you to everyone who came to cheer their teams on. Year 4 girls have worked hard this season and have deserved all of the success they have met on court this term. Well played girls!

Year 3 girls hosted yet another festival on Wednesday 21st February, where the focus for the afternoon was on participation and learning about the game. All of the girls had a wonderful time. Year 3 girls concluded a fantastic season with a match at Streatham and Clapham on Wednesday 14th March where our Dragons and Unicorns were defeated but our Phoenixes fought hard to win their match by 3 goals to 0. The girls have enjoyed learning about netball and have shown some promising signs for the future. Well played girls!

HOCKEY

Year 5 and 6 girls had the opportunity to attend an afternoon of friendly hockey at  JAPS on Monday 19th March. I am thrilled to report that both our teams beat JAPS 3-0 and 4-0. The girls have enjoyed playing hockey and it was a pleasure watching them dominate the opposition on pitch. Well done girls!

INTERHOUSE NETBALL

Our annual interhouse netball competition was held on the afternoons of 7th March for Years 3 and 4 and 9th March for Years 5 and 6. The weather was on our side and the girls had two great afternoons to play some wonderful netball.  After some excellent play and great team work Nightingale House were Year 3 and 4 winners on the first afternoon. On Friday afternoon it was the turn of Year 5 and 6 girls, who played some great netball and worked well in their teams. Hepworth House came through as the winners for Years 5 and 6. After some careful calculations Nightingale House were crowned the Netball Interhouse winners for 2018!  It was great to see the girls working together and playing some fantastic netball. Congratulations girls!
