Admissions Policy
Entry to the Nursery
It is advisable to register your child for possible admission at least one year before their third birthday. If you would like to put your child's name on our waiting list, please fill in our registration form (you can download our registration form here 65Kb
Children are given a short informal assessment with a parent present. The child is given approximately 10 small tasks. Scores are given for each task. We look for children of average to above average ability who are eager and ready to learn and who have concentration and language skills appropriate for their age. We also look for imagination and individuality.
Reception
The vast majority of our nursery children automatically transfer into reception. Should a vacancy arise, prospective pupils are tested in numeracy, phonics, reading skills and writing. The tests will depend on the time of year a vacancy becomes available and the age of the child.
Key Stage 1
A few places sometimes become available in Years 1 and 2. Children are tested in Maths, English and Reasoning.
Entrance to the Prep School at 7+
In-house examinations are set in Maths, English and Reasoning in February. External candidates take these tests at the same time.
Occasionally children join the school in other year groups. To assess their ability, they are given standardised tests in English, Maths and Reasoning appropriate to their age. Wherever possible, applicants will be asked to ‘join’ the class they may be going into to give them the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the school and their peers.
A number of bursaries can be awarded to pupils where parents are unable to pay the full tuition fee. Monies are limited and we make these awards after careful consideration of financial circumstances. We would expect the pupils to display good all-round ability and a positive attitude to school when making our decisions.
Parents will be asked to complete a confidential statement of their financial circumstances. If they are offered an award, these will be reviewed annually. Awards are made on the availability of funding and at the discretion of the Governors. Parents whose gross income exceeds £45,000 are unlikely to be eligible for assistance.
Account is always taken of pupils with special educational needs. |
